Interesting points! I have a nearby feature on my phone and occasionally look at it to find people to follow. I think it would be useful to have geographically nearby followers so you can tweet news, disasters, warnings, etc. as they are happening and let people in the area know. As on mashable recently it would be nice to have the option of sending tweets only to your followers in a geographic region.

This is really a great article, Judy! I am following you since about 2 hours now and have already got the first peace of realy useful information. Thanks!
But there is one thing I would like to note: You wrote "The more people a person follows on Twitter, the more likely one has access to a broader and better field of information. The more one can learn." This is definitely true, but with an increasing number of people you follow, the harder it gets to actually find that information among all the the other stuff. So the "noise" gets louder and you have to spend a lot more time to go through all the potential information. (hope that was clear - I'm not native and sometimes have some troubles saying what I actually want to... ;))

Excellent post JudyRey! I saw brief mentions @ the phishing, but am so tiny and use twitter so little I don't think I was touched by it. I have though, often wondered why certain people are following me? Do they even look at my website? If yes, why do they not leave a comment-help with the rankings-or retweet, as I do. I do a full profile review and leave a comment for everyone I follow, or follow-back. That is my idea of "community" and building "relationships". If I get a follow that does nothing, and I review their site and see they are in no way related to my interests, I feel guilty for not following back! Generally I will follow back anyway, and assume they are just building numbers. I have no problem with that either, but will not participate most of the time, since we do not "share a vision."
Thanks for the great blog! I really like it!

It has always amazed me how people will band together during any kind of crisis. It helps me believe that there is some good in the world. I'm sorry that I signed up for Twitter a few days too late to help warn people about the attack while it was happening.

This is what I love about (what is commonly termed) social media.
The people factor is what it is and should be about; I think the 'movers and shakers' miss this very important point.
Thanks for writing this Judy! :)
