Psalm 133- Oprah Winfrey Essence Portrait

Psalm 133 (KJV)

  1. A Song of Ascents; of David.
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
  2. It is like the precious oil upon the head,
coming down upon the beard; even Aaron’s beard,
    that cometh down upon the collar of his garments;
  3. Like the dew of Hermon, that cometh down upon the mountains of Zion ; for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for ever.

Psalm 133 was chosen for the strokes for a basic Oprah Winfrey Essence Portrait due to the outstanding role Ms. Winfrey has played fostering tolerance for peoples of all peoples despite differences of race, culture, sex, religion and age.

On her show Oprah interviews people whose views she clearly does not share, but she remains fair and gives others an opportunity to have their say. On Oprah’s web site (http://oprah.com) I was amazed to find less tolerant people openly attacking Oprah for either not full sharing their religious beliefs or for not fully promoting a one sided “dialogue”. The views and messages of these less tolerant people are allowed.

I have personally seen guests from all races, most every country that will allow citizens to travel or Skype to the USA where the show is produced, all major and many less well known religions. Oprah has helped us all meet, get to know and understand and even like people who are much different. When we hear their stories, challenges and problems we realize how very much alike we really are.

By helping her audiences meet, understand and even come to like people who are far different from us Oprah builds tolerance and understanding. Tolerance is hand in glove with freedom. This also creates more peaceful relationships.

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.” For a little less than an hour, each weekday, plus through Harpo’s other media opportunities, we dwell as brethren with Oprah.

Jon Bon Jovi Essence Portrait – Stand By Me

Psalm 18 (Jon Bon Jovi B & W ) was inspired by the You Tube video “Stand By Me by Jon Bon Jovi, Andy Maddian, Richie Sambora and Friends, sung in both English and Farsi on behalf of Iran’s Sea of Green Freedom Protesters. The portrait was completed in the early morning of July 24, 2009.

It will fit into work that is in preparation revolving around the Essences Portraits and Social Media. This will include portraits of people, including celebrities, but also others, in Social Media.

Jon Bon Jovi Psalm 18 portrait by Judy Rey Wasserman

Psalm 18 (Jon Bon Jovi B & W)

The Essence Portraits show the Divine that is within all of us, the spiritual, eternal and breaththat is our essential self. While all of my Post Conceptual UnGraven Image art uses symbols to represent the strings of elementary physics, the basic energy and matter of our world in the Essence Portraits the symbols are used to reveal more than physicality.

As the founder of Post Conceptual UnGraven Image Art theory my work stands for tolerance. The more we are able to be tolerant of each other, the freer we will be. Real freedom increases tolerance and vice versa.

I am concerned and support of the courageous Iranians who have peacefully protested first for a fair election and now for freedom, which hopefully will include separation of religion and state, tolerance for all and term limits, in addition to a change of regime.

Therefore, when Jon Bon Jovi created the performance of “Stand By Me” to help raise awareness of the plight and courage of Iranians, his became the first portrait of a celebrity active on Social Media.

Portrait series uses the original letters of Bible test(s) for every stroke. Each text used is prayerfully selected (or suggested by the portrait’s subject).

This initial painting of Jon Bon Jovi will be used to create other versions that will include color and other imagery.

Here’s a simple version that will appear along with a message about the You Tube video that will appear as piece in one of my works about the story of Iran and Social Media. The strokes are green as those of us on Twitter have altered our avatars to show green showing support of the Iranian protest.

ArtHamptons 2009

ArtHamptons 2009 is the only art fair this season in the Hamptons. As such it did double duty offering contemporary galleries a place to exhibit along side blue chip secondary market dealers.

Retuning for its sophomore year the fair has grown by 33%. Specializing in Modern and Contemporary Art from the late 1800’s until today, the fair housed 65 international galleries and over $200 million dollars of art.

While the Hamptons is knows as a summer place to see and be seen, the second weekend in July is especially the place to be if one is a member of the art world. Opening night gala for the fair was a fundraiser held for at the Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton .

Visitors to ArtHamptons included celebrities such as Jon Bon Jovi, Russell Simmons, Kelsey Grammer, Joy Behar, and several housewives from the reality TV’s “ The Real Housewives of New York City ”. More importantly, I spotted several top collectors on the day I attended. However collectors seemed to maintain a low key presence, unlike the chummy gaiety of previous pre-recession times at fairs in other cities and venues.

Repeating last year’s success, Mark Borghi Fine Art’s booth was situated at the entrance to the fair. I have learned to make it my first and last stop so the images of the museum quality works there can linger behind my eyes. Among splendid works by Picasso, de Kooning, Chamberlain, Indiana, Calder and more, I spied an atypical but splendid painting by Wayne Thiebold capturing the essence of being windswept on a summer day at the beach. I know I deeply need to own this, cherish it and then lend it to a museum so others can too. I tell Mark that one day, I will be trading my art with him for works such as this. Since I am founding Post Conceptual Art (using symbols as strokes to form traditional images), especially the branch of UnGraven Image, this could be more that a pipe dream.

Peter Marcelle Contemporary booth was dedicated to his late friend Andrew Wyeth. Last year Peter sold the second most expensive work at this fair, and this year his Wyeth is top sale. Among the watercolor and temperas is a stunning portrait of Helga, priced at $15 million that I hope ends up in A NYC museum so I can visit it often. Peter invites me to an opening at his newly expanded Hampton Road Gallery that night.

Dan Rizzie this year’s poster artist for ArtHamptons is also represented by Peter Marcelle. See:

Synthetic polymer paint and silkscreen inks on canvas,

Salvador Dali

Playing Cards (King of Clubs), 1972;

Lithograph on Arches paper; Signed Dali in pencil, lower right and numbered 136/150 in pencil

I nearly missed Animation and Fine Art Galleries of Chapel Hill, NC, as the name said movie cels to me. Wrong! More glorious art, mostly prints and multiples all crammed into the booth in a system of movable walls. Like the Thiebold at Borgi, many of the works were too detailed to show up well in a small jpg in a blog, but blue chip art prints that are not often seen at the fairs. Thanks to Bryan Guarnieri for allowing the use of the Salvador Dali print shown here.

A small but stunning Chamberlain lured me into the Margot Stein Gallery where I enjoyed a pleasant conversation with Barton Stein, along with the pleasure of being surrounded by the art of Dine, Holzer and Wesselmann.

DC Moore Gallery represents Jane Wilson, this year’s lifetime Achievement winning artist. Wilson is noted for her Hamptons landscapes, which were displayed at the gallery’s booth.

I often visit DFN Gallery when I am in Chelsea , which represents several Hamptons artists, including Cornelia Foss, whose work was on display in the gallery booth.

Black & White Gallery had strong work by Alicia Ross using cross stitches of cotton for strokes. I especially appreciated Motherboard_7, a large work that is worth a trip to the gallery to see if you are in NYC.

In a discussion with Arnold Feldman of David Lerner and Associates mentioned my participation on Twitter in relation to #IranElection, which is the tag for Iran’s Freedom movement. He sent me to see a work by Hessam Abrishami that he saw at ABRA Gallery. Thanks Arnie! This gallery represents Iranian artists. The Abrishami work includes a poem in Farsi by Mandana Zandian. It is shown here courtesy of the gallery.

“Untitled 1742”  Poem

No. Believe me. It doesn’t matter. Your forcing does nothing. I am cold and tired and on the verge of tears. I would like to be alone to write, to cry, and to be silent with all my youthfulness. It feels the same as an unfinished Persian carpet made from the village girl, with its beautiful colors and intricate patterns.

I have to understand more and I don’t want to be in the outside looking in.

As always it was delightful to see Rick Friedman, Executive Director and Founder of ArtHamptons and his lovely fiancee Cindy Lou Wakefield. I though the fair last year was super, but this year’s was better, largely due to the mix of more solid Contemporary Art galleries. Thanks, Rick—and I’m looking forward to ArtHamptons 2010.

The Explosive Secret Story in Iran

The information blackout being imposed by the government currently in control of Iran prevents an incredible news story from being reported. It is not actually about the protests or human rights violations. It can change the world as we know it.

Due to my activity on Twitter and Facebook as an artist, I have a strong following and am mentioned often in the Twitter sites such as grader.com and wefollow.com as one of the top Twitterers.

When I began to tweet and ReTweet on behalf of Iran’s peaceful protesters who wanted first a fair election count and now freedom and basic human rights, I began to make friends and new contacts with people in that movement because when I Tweet the message can go far due to my following.

I am also a professional arts journalist and writer. As such I understand about research, confirming sources, ethics and gathering news.

Sea of Green Rainbow by Judy Rey Wasserman, 2009

According to various of my sources agents of foreign governments and forces are now fighting in Iran under the probably illegitimate but standing government of Khamenini and Ahmedinejad.

I have seen various reports that place Hamas and Hezbollah troops in Iran . Several reports indicate that some of the forces wielding arms, beating and shooting at the protesters and raiding homes at night did not speak Farsi but only spoke Arabic.

A source of a source that I will refer to as Iran ‘s Deep Throat (IDT) in homage to the intrepid reporting of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein Bernstein and became known to me a day ago. All of the info I have either check out from other sources or does not conflict with what we know.

Both this source and the person acting as a go between and translator have a histories with the Iranian military. IDT is in Iran at this time and I am taking utmost care for his safety. My Iranian sources outside of Iran all have family within Iran, which makes them seek anonymity also.

Today IDT claims to have reports that the Taliban are “increasing their terror efforts all around the country. It seems that most atrocities are centered in Jaam-e-Jam (TV Station) a massive fortified complex. Hundreds are held within complex. .Coup heads seem to operate from Jaam-e-Jam as their HQ.”

The information that Hamas, Hezbollah and Taliban are working for Khamenei and his government including Ahmedinejad is startling. The situation in Iran is no longer one of Iranians in conflict with Iranians but with foreign forces.

As the EU and the USA hesitate to step into Iran, despite repeated and documented breaches of human rights according to the UN, which Iran helped found, other foreign governments and parties show no such restraint.

However, the news is far worse that that. IDT has indicated for several days that Hamas and Hezbollah troops are moving out of the control of the Iranian government. It is unclear if they are acting on their own or under direction for leaders outside of Iran . Today, the Taliban is also acting independently as they terrorize.

According to IDT, “It seems that the Coup d’Etat forces are out of control. They don’t seem to care about Khamenei’s or Ahmedinejad’s latest remarks to halt terror. In a joint Chiefs meeting, Jafari told Generals that IRG is in charge of all aspects of National Security now. His remarks were very much understood as a warning to the Army not to interfere.”

Jafari’s remarks seemed to justify the takeover based on the constitutional role of the IRGC to protect the revolution [meaning the revolution that rid Iran of the Shah]. In effect, Iran is under Marshall Law.

However, that law is being carried out by forces that increasingly answer to no one in Iran , including Khamenei and Ahmedinejad. “IRG has taken over factual governing of all provinces now.”

According to Iran ‘s Constitution bringing in outside military forces or mercenaries is illegal.

IDT indicates that if Khamenei and Ahmedinejad fail to get the protesters off the streets we will see a very bloody weekend.

While normally excellent press such as The Guardian focus today on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei , the Supreme leader’s son taking over control of the anti-protest militia, they miss the point that this is a move to regain control of the militia. Instead, the press sees the continuing rift between the senior clerics, conservative politicians and Revolutionary Guard generals.

Khamenei’s government is more in danger of being taken over by forces from outside Iran now operating within Iran than from Iranians opposed to it. Khamenei finds himself in the position of a hen who quarreled with other hens in the hen house and invited in the foxes to help with the dispute.

IDT tells us that an IRG commander told him “imported elements” posing as Basij & IRG had orders to crush & kill, create havoc & horror”. Special Forces IRG & Security Forces and real Basiji were not armed with weapons. “Rogue” forces form outside of the country “from East of Tehran” were brought in who were armed.

Other reports indicate that the police and army, and perhaps other Iranians, are and have been unwilling to fire on their own people. Watching You Tube videos it becomes apparent that between horrific and violent acts against the unarmed protesters some of the government forces act peacefully to disrupt and disperse protesters. Clearly not all of the forces are armed as seen on You Tube.

That governments outside Iran are trying to stir up problems inside of Iran began to be obvious to me on June 27 th a follower that I was beginning to grow suspicious of sent me the following direct message: “NEW & Private to trusted Iranians: Human Chain monday at 17 30 from tajrish sq.to rahansq. Iranians in Iran ONLY”

Previously this follower who seemed to be pro the protesters would ask me for information about my contacts that “she” has no need to know. Another seemingly benign follower sent the same message and also wanted me to give them contact information for Iranians that they were guessing I have. Of course, I do not give out such information, but when I would ask why this was needed a flutter o f ridiculous praise for me and comments generally followed.

I grew more suspicious. I was urged to Tweet this message in the stream, but I declined.

Research in the stream, on Facebook, even in the news indicated that this demonstration was not called by Mousavi or any source I could find. For sure whatever was going on was not coming from any source for freedom because it had the look and feel of a trap.

I contacted someone I know who is well connected to people in the Iranian freedom protesters about my suspicions and with the information that I had. The turnout for the protest was not the 5000 expected but only 1000. According to reports in the stream and the largest amount of police and Basiji yet had shown up for the event. The Basji were heavily armed, and now even wore camouflage vests, which protesting Tweeters in said looked really odd and out of place on the streets of Tehran.

Although there were more casualties and arrests from this protest, the result was less horrific than if 5000 people had walked into what I now firmly believe was a trap.

Neither Khamenei nor Ahmedinejad benefited from another protest or even setting a trap, plus the known Iranian government agents who tweet were not spreading this message. Certainly Mousavi and his followers had no need to walk into a trap.

Who benefits from both quelling the protesters and ushering in the fall of what is becoming Khamenei and Ahmedinejad bloody regime? Clearly violent radical supposedly Muslim forces from outside of Iran , such as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Taliban stand to benefit. This further confirms the presence of the foreign armed forces in Iran

IDT says that the “ Army is not stationed in cities & can’t legally move in to cities unless Martial law is declared”.

Khamenei and Ahmedinejad desperately hope to regain control of their country from the rogue forces. What began as stolen election and civil protest is on the verge of turning into a coup or a kind of invasion by neighboring outside forces that were illegally and mistakenly invited in.

The looming question is: How far along is Iran’s Nuclear program? Can anyone, including Iran, afford to have Hamas, Hezbollah or the Taliban have nuclear bombs?

Here is the final quote I have from today, “Things are getting out of hand rapidly. At this point, we fear that even if Khamenei backs down and accepts the political compromise, the indoctrinated Basiji & IRGC warlords won’t.”

* * * * *

To sum this incredible news up:

1. Khamenei and Ahmedinejad brought in or welcomed outside forces of Hamas, Hezbollah and Taliban who are pretending to be Basiji and other forces– but not the military.

2. These Non-Iranian Arab forces are the ones who have basically caused most of the violence. Part of the reason for the blackout of information is to keep these forces from being revealed.

3. Khamenei and Ahmedinejad have lost much of their control of these outside rogue forces who are on the verge of staging a coup of their own to control Iran.

Your help is needed to get this news out.

  • If you are a press please feel free to post or rewrite this story. Bloggers feel free to add it to your blog. I would appreciate credit as the artist and founder of Post Conceptual UnGraven Image Art (Judy Rey Wasserman) who is helping promote tolerance, freedom and peace – but I have no wish to become a news reporter. I am willing to help reporters, bloggers, etc. in any way I can. My last post Turning Point is a kind of introduction to why I am posting news information of what is essentially a blog about Art & Inspiration and occaisionally Social Media, which I have and will use for art. Please also check out http://ungravenimage.com for more about me.

  • If you are on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Tumblr, etc., please post links to this article. Stumble. Digg, Mixx it– be creative! Get the word out!  If you are in a country such as the USA, the EU countries, Australia, Canada, etc., please contact your appropriate officials who deal with international relations about these events.

Thank you and God bless you.

Turning Point

The Founders of the American Revolution were men and women who were farmers, merchants, tradesmen and often husbands, wives and parents, yet we remember them as heroes who stand, even today for freedom and democracy. They decided to stand up for their rights and then reached a turning point where they found themselves in difficult turning point where they would be standing for more that they first expected.

During the years since the “Shot heard ‘round the world”, the ideals of freedom and democracy have spread around the world, but also deepened in the USA to include inalienable rights for all people of whatever sex, race or creed.

In the twenty-first century technology, especially Social Media has felled barriers of time and distance and borders so that we can instantly befriend and communicate with people throughout the world who we might never otherwise meet. We are now citizens of our countries but also the world.

As an artist my work stands for tolerance, freedom and peace. I am founding Post Conceptual Art, plus a branch of it called UnGraven Image, which is the first religious art theory founded in the USA, which being uniquely American is inclusive for all whatever one’s belief [See You Tube: “Painting with the Big Bang of Genesis”]

The first turning point for me came when I saw what is now “The Tweet heard ‘round the world.” Within a day I was immersed in creating an artwork about it. Below is a small piece of that work, the avatar is my own painting created with strokes of the original letters of Esther 1-2, a Bible tale that occurs in Persia ( Iran ). The painting used for the avatar was completed in the early morning today, July 8, 2009 . The quote used comes from an actual tweet, the character, or member name is fictitious and my creation.

Today I reached another turning point.

Due to my ongoing help Tweeting and moreover ReTweeting news that I could confirm, or that came from reputable sources in Iran or with such connections I have become known within that community. Behind the normal Tweets I have developed some “connections’ and as long as I can remain within my own ideals of helping with peaceful protests to gain freedom and what for me are inalienable rights I have quietly assisted.

Yesterday I was contacted with information that other journalists are either unaware of as getting information out of Iran is now difficult, or are unable or unwilling to act upon as the sources and information cannot be fully confirmed.

I have confirmed the information as best I can. Being in a kind of hub of information shouted in the Twitter stream under the hashtag #Iranelection, privately whispered in direct messages (DMs) and emails eventually the pieces, bits and crumbs add up to a whole cake. And the cake is rotten.

Although it is inconvenient, as ArtHamptons is about to begin, I have my own art deadlines and newsletters to send, etc., plus this blog is about Art & Inspiration not world affairs. The news of Iran is so off my normal purpose that although I expect many hits to my blog, these will not be from people who are eager to discover my art or invest in prints. As a marketing tactic this one possibly equals any van Gogh tried.

What will follow is at least one article on important but basically uncovering news from Iran that is world changing, and has the potential to change the lives of all of us, even if we are not Iranian.

I hesitated and prayed about my taking this step. It is inconvenient. It is a hassle. Frankly, I would rather paint and work as an artist or inspirational writer. Plus, I am not paid for being a news reporter and it is not a career I want.

Freedom is never convenient. It demands that we participate and be active. As long as one of us is not free, the freedom of all is weakened. I am sure Paul Revere would have preferred to be cozy in his bed on the night he took his famous ride. Washington and his troops were horribly “inconvenienced” at Valley Forge.

I have insider information that is important, riveting and a bombshell that seems to fall to me to share with the world. Iran has reached a turning point that the news media is either uninformed about or failing to report.

While the people of Iran protest in silence I who am blessed to live in the land of the free will not remain silent. I have reached a turning point.

Please join with me to help. Tweet and ReTweet links to this and the upcoming article(s). Place the information and links on Facebook walls and in discussions and comments. Send emails with the upcoming information to your elected officials, news reporters, and encourage your clergy stand up and publicly take action and also pray.

Together we can turn the situation that will become shocking around. It is not what you may think. The news in the next post coming soon is simply not being reported as the Iranian government and the dissenting government officials are hoping to quietly deal with a new twist and turn of events.

Thank you and God bless you.

How to Stay Safe from the Increased Phishing in Social Media & Email

According to Fortinet’s latest report the month of June, 2009 had the “highest rate of phishing attacks to date” on the Web. The rise in attacks is expected to continue in emails and through links on Social Media sites.

In the last 24 hours I have clicked through links on Twitter that have taken me to phishing sites. Two of these links were in my Direct Messages (DM) from a new follower who seemed trustworthy due to his previous tweets and activity.

During the past two weeks I had received messages to other phishing sites via emails on Facebook.

Spam in my regular email increased dramatically last month, including phising attempts. Currently there is a spam message going around on gmail that appears to be from Google which takes on to site that looks like Google, but is a fake as the URL shows.

Phishers pose a problem for everyone on the Internet.

Phishers count on us to make the huge mistake of trusting others, who we believe to be our friends or trusted sites. Phishers are always wolves in sheep’s clothing.

While some malicious people may use similar tactics to phishers, this article focuses on phishers who want your ID and Password information. If used correctly by phishers that information can help them steal money from you or your friends.

STEP 1 to Stay Safe

Use different user names and passwords for all of your online banking accounts. Although you may wish to use the same or similar user-names for Social media and web accounts so your friends can recognize you, always use different passwords. For instance I have a different password for Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Digg, etc. I keep all of these passwords in a small notebook near my PC.

Phishers count on people being lazy, ignorant or plain stupid. Using the same passwords and user names for more than one account mean that if a phishers has access to one account they can easily sign into others.

It may seem like a hassle to have so many passwords, and it is—but it is less than the hassle people have gone through from having their social media accounts suspended or lost due to phishers. Worse than that is having one’s financial accounts used by phishers and the financial and credit problems and major hassles that can follow that!

STEP 2 to Stay Safe

If your browser asks if you want it to remember the passwords always say NO!

Phisher worms and hackers have been know to harvest that saved information. Using Mozilla Foxfire, or TweetDeck on Twitter seems to help prevent worm access best, but why risk sharing your important info?

STEP 3 to Stay Safe:

Make a habit of being alert. When a link takes you to a sign in page to a familiar site ALWAYS look at the URL to make sure that the site is legitimate and not a phishing clone. For instance, in the last 24 hours I followed two different links from a twitter follower I though was OK. One went to Facebook—only according to the URL above in my browser it was not Facebook. It did not begin http://www.facebook.com , which is how all true facebook URLs begin. The other link took me to a site that looked like You Tube, but again the URL was wrong and did not begin http://www.youtube.com.

Many microbloggers, myself included, use shortened URLs. However, using one means one cannot see where the link goes. If a shortened URL link takes you to a Social media site or app, but the real URL of the site does not show in your browser, such as http://facebook.com – do not enter any of your information. Instead open another tab in your browser. Sign into the real Facebook. Then go back to the Tweet or original place where you followed the link and follow it again. Since you have signed into Facebook the link will automatically open. If it does not open, something is wrong and the link could have led you to a phishing site. The trick of signing into a social media site and then reusing the link works for most social media sites. It recently saved me from a phisher.

STEP 4 to Stay Safe:

Trust no one – not even your closet friends and family on the internet when you follow a link to a site that asks for any username or password.

My best friend in the world builds PC’s, web sites, programs and taught me a lot about passwords and Internet security. We were friends for many years before we joined MySpace, Twitter and Facebook. However, if Rebecca sent me a Tweet or F email with a link that asked for one of my social media passwords I would check the URL in my browser.

I trust my friend implicitly, but we both know that a new worm can get past even all of her formidable and newest defenses on her PC, and hackers have previously snuck past Social media coders, who do a valiant job.

Phishers count on us not to check our trusted friends, sources and sites. Phishers have gained access to people’s email accounts, Twitter accounts, facebook accounts and other IDs and fooled unsuspecting and trusting friends. Remember Phishers are wolves I sheep’s clothing. The best sheep to masquerade as are the people you best trust! Always check the URL no matter who sent you the link.

STEP 5 to Stay Safe:

Follow and be friends with the people on social media who will warn and help you during a problem.

Once a phisher gains access to another members account the phishing can spread like wildfire, as respectable accounts are compromised. Each time there has been a phishing problem on a Social Media site, individual members who discovered the problem sounded the alarm, which was then picked up and made known by other members.

Twitter is the best site for breaking and updating news on any phishing – or actually any attack– on any of the Social Media sites as updates happen quickly in real time and you can follow them all via hashtags (#), whether you actually follow or are friends with the member(s) posting the messages or not. In other words, if there is phishing attack on Facebook, open a tab and go to Twitter, which may not be experiencing the attack but will have the latest breaking news and helpful info you can follow on Facebook thanks to Twitter members not actually Twitter staff.

Enter the terms #phishing or #phishers in Twitter Search to quickly access any news.

You also want to be following members who will help when there are problems. Chances are these members will be messaging on their Facebook walls and tweeting about an attack before it becomes a Trending Topic.

Follow me, @judyrey on Twitter ( http://www.twitter.com/judyrey ) and be my Facebook friend, where I am Judy Rey Wasserman ( http://www.facebook.com/judyreywasserman ) . I have stepped up during every phishing or worm attack spending countless hours messaging to help on Twitter and Facebook during every attack since I became active on twitter,, and a few weeks later on Facebook in early November 2008. Evidence of this is easy to find by scrolling down the blogs at http://ungravenimage.com/blog or in my Twitter timeline.

I am not a social media guru. I am an artist. As an artist my role as a person who inspires and leads the community is a kind of sacred trust. Thus, I am responsible to help my community and especially my followers, friends and fans. For more on the job of an artist see: What is the Job of the Artist?

One of my first heartwarming moments on Twitter happened about a week after the first phishing attack, when Twitter had its hands full as at the same time the accounts of celebrities such as Britney Spears were hacked. I checked out #phishing, which had hundreds of aggregated tweets within a few minutes at the height of the attack, but a week later was happily down to a few each day. Someone had Tweeted about some oddity that they worried might be a phishing attack and asked if they “should contact @judyrey ?”

If I am anywhere near a PC or Twitter access, if there is an attack I will watch your back. And, I do follow back so you can reach me easily with problems that I do my best to help solve. I follow all my followers for many reasons, one of them being that is gives me ongoing access to a great range o information and breaking news.

While you would think that following social media experts and celebrities, who can reach many people would help protect us during a phishing or any kind of problem, that has not proved true.

Organized attacks seem to start late Saturday afternoons and continue until Sunday night. Probably that is due to the fact that most of the Social Media and Tech Gurus are not around much on the weekends; it is their time off.

Very few celebrities are willing or allowed by their managers and PR people to associate themselves with bad news, no less ongoing news that cannot be controlled. There is a huge difference between raising funds for a cause, which is actually perceived as good news and spending many hours messaging updates of newly compromised accounts or phishing link come-ons.

One of the people you should be following, and whose stream you need to keep an eye on is Arleen Anderson who on Twitter is @AohaArleen. If Arleen is around (and no one is inline 24/7 you can count on her to jump in and help. Arleen has great radar and follows many people too, so she is often one of the people to Tweet about a problem early on.

Peter Cashmore’s site mashable.com has great information and can be very helpful. Cashmore can be followed on Twitter at @mashable . He does not Tweet ongoing breaking news but gets news about Social Media, including helpful advice before the regular media can.

Michael Arrington’s techcrunch.com also updates quickly with news of Social Media and internet news. On Twitter follow @TechCrunch

What Can Best Keep You Safe – Apps, Software and Sites

Twitter, Facebook and other Social Media sites are businesses that are focused on making money one day, even if they’re not doing it now. Their goal is to increase membership, not have members move away by threats of phishing, hacking and worms. It is not in their best interests to stir up concern and possible problems by messaging frequent updates about a problem. Instead, they wisely focus their staff of solving the source(s) of the problem.

Also, it is not the responsibility of any Social Media site or email program to guard or protect users from phishers. In truth, that is still out of out technological reach. How can shortened URLs be effectively screened?

While using Mozilla, TweetDeck, having firewalls, and up to date virus protection can help I many ways, they really do not prevent phishing.

When you see or hear news about current phishing from a message of Facebook or Twitter or via a news article, etc. pay attention! Find out more about any current phishing scam. The more you know, the better you will be able to effectively protect yourself, which really is not difficult.

Follow the steps above and stay alert. The best person to keep you from a phishing attack is you!

The Art of Religious Tolerance

On this Independence Day, I am especially proud to be an American and an artist. I rejoice in my freedoms of speech and religion.

As an artist I often speak with my hands, using a pencil, pen, paintbrush or keyboard. I speak on paper, canvas, board, and via pixels on monitors.

Freedom and tolerance go hand in hand. Without freedom tolerance withers or is imprisoned. Without tolerance freedom become suppressed and dies.

As an artist one of the things I represent is tolerance, especially religious tolerance.

[Note: The Statute of Liberty paintings featured on this page were some of Judy Rey Wasserman’s earliest Post Conceptual Ungraven Image works and so are not signed with the familiar logo face self portrait, which was create later.]

The founders of the United States of America knew this and wrote religious tolerance into the constitution. Back in 1776 it was a big deal that George Washington was Church of England (now Episcopalian, in USA) while John Adams belonged to a Protestant church that was more to the religious left of Catholicism.

However, the Founding fathers went beyond their Protestant theological differences which today seem to hardy matter. They included those of all religions. Washington even sent a now famous letter to the Jews when he was inaugurated.

Historically, governments that are founded to represent religious beliefs and groups, including atheism (U.S.S.R.) have always end up violating basic human rights and becoming controlled by tyrants who use ‘religion’ for their own means. Artists become pawns of the state or their work is suppressed.

“There is no such thing as a little freedom. Either you are all free, or you are not free.” -Walter Cronkite

Images in the blog article are patriotic and religious. They are all created using strokes are alpha-numeric, phonic and binary. Since binary is synonymous for duality these strokes always refer to concepts found in all of the world’s major religions and paths, plus most others. The symbol set is the original Torah font of the Bible.

The artworks here are Post Conceptual Art, specifically from the branch known as UnGraven Image. Post Conceptual UnGraven Image is the first religious art theory founded in the USA . Being American, it is fully inclusive and tolerant. It is art with a vision we can share.

Fittingly this new art theory was founded in the town of Southampton NY, which was originally settled to promote religious freedom and tolerance in 1640, when a small group of settlers landed a place they called Conscience Point..

Recently my avatar or Twitter (@judyrey) changed from it’s official purple background with gold letters to a green background to show support for Iran’s Freedom Protesters. To celebrate Independence Day it was changed again to show American pride while remaining is support of real democracy and freedom for Iran.
