Holiday 2014 Bookmark

This year my winter holiday artwork (and also downloadable gift to newsletter subscribers) is a special bookmark celebrating the New Year.

I expect that 2014 is going to be a special year of light for me because I will be releasing a new full length Art of Seeing The Divine book. I expect 2014 will be a special year for all of us due to new understandings coming from science, such as the research news from hadron collider at CERN, and the currently breaking news from the Genome project ENCODE that a second strand of DNA code had just been discovered code hiding within the one we know. Plus, we are going to have the first two of four blood moons (an event of light) occurring at Passover on April 15, and again at the Feasts of Tabernacles on Oct. 8, 2014.

“The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.” – Joel 2:31

The Special Coded Significances in this Bookmark

As found in the beginning of Genesis, the Hebrew word for light is spelled aleph-vav-resh, and pronounced like the English words “ore” and “or”. This has additional special meaning for me as these letters are now all found in my Hebrew name.

At first glance it is clear that the artwork of the bookmark is about light as there are seven candles, one for each day of the week.  Since three of the candles are placed in a scroll and the more placed in an open book, the image refers to  enlightenment gained from information or knowledge. There is  snowflake with the seventh candle inside it.

Why the snowflake?  Is it a decoration, a way of visually referring to the winter holidays? Yes, but there is more. However, certainly for non-Bible based people can access my work through simply through the science and duality of its strokes.

Although books and scrolls have been used to convey secular or non-spiritual information, for most Jews and Christians these images immediately bring to mind images of Torahs and Bibles, hymnals, and prayer-books/siddurim, etc.

Then why the snowflake?  Is it a decoration, a way of visually referring to the winter holidays? Yes, but there is more. However, certainly for non-Bible based people can access my work through simply through the science and duality of its strokes.

Yet for Jews and Christians, snowflakes, which are crystals of water, must visually refer to water, and water In the Bible always symbolizes the Word of The Divine, the Torah or logo.  This concept is a familiar one, as the ritual “baths” of  mikvahs and baptism enact the cleansing of the participant by a new full immersion In flowing (living) water of the Word.

As an artist, it seems to me that depicting a snowflake is the only way to clearly show water as a stand-alone non-man-made visual item that is not in some way contained in a container like water or in  a deep depression in the earth (another kind of container) like river or sea banks. Even an icicle would need to hang from something for the image to be easily understood.

The lit candle in the depicted snowflake also serves as a reminder that like the light, water also presents in a wave form when it is a fluid. In reality, the light would of-so-briefly illuminate the facets of the snowflake/idea. Then the snowflake would melt, just as the ideas we learn “melt” into memories in our minds, to become actionable in our lives.

 Each separate Essence Portrait image of an object is created by hand with using Torah font letters for each stroke, as follows:  snowflake – Isaiah 55, Candle – Genesis 1:1-5, and both the scroll and the open book – Genesis 1;1-15b and Deuteronomy 34. These individual images were then professionally scanned and combined by me digitally to create the bookmark.

This 2014 gift bookmark is also the first visual and (when printed out) physical token and reminder that this coming spring, just after Easter and Passover (and the first blood moon), the Art of Seeing The Divine book Crowd Funding campaign and events will launch. This campaign will include great rewards, including art and participation in events, as well as the opportunity for being a part of bringing forward a new book (both as an e-book and in print) that is a kind of seminar in book format, including new art, inspirational writing including the revelation of new understandings of Bible prophesy and their contemporary fulfillment through science, art and society in our Information Age, plus current events.

Prior to that there will be a giveaway of a brand new smaller e-book, an introductory version of the new full book – but the giveaway of this book will only run from prior to the Crowd Funding campaign to just prior to the end of the campaign. Think of the shorter book as a kind of taste test that is more appetizer sized that the usual tiny taste sample or Look-Inside on Amazon. If you are a subscriber to my newsletter or have purchased anything through the new store and shopping cart at http://store.artofseeingthedivine.com then you will be notified of how to download your copy of the giveaway book as soon as it becomes available.  You will also be the first to receive notice of when the Crowd Sourcing campaign is going live, so that you can take advantage of the door-buster and early-bird rewards.

Snowflake (Isaiah 55)

This basic Essence Portrait of a snowflake is created with the original Torah font Hebrew letters of Isaiah chapter 55, used for each and every stroke.

” For as the rain cometh down and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, except it water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, and give seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
” So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void, except it accomplish that which I please, and make the thing whereto I sent it prosper.” –  Isaiah 55:10-11

Snowflakes fascinate me, as long as I do not need to shovel or trudge through an accumulation of them.

The images of snowflakes seen under microscopes show symmetrical hexagons of frozen lace-like forms. Under the microscope they are seen now as imperfect as their originally perfect frozen shapes are rendered askew by air and anything they contact.  This is why the snowflake above is imperfect, two of it’s arms or wings are too close together, moved a brief encounter with an outside force.

In the Bible, the Hebrew word, water (pronounced mayim) both refers to real water and the Word of The Divine that flows, and nourishes, which we also call the Torah, the Pentateuch or the Bible (either the Hebrew testament or both testaments depending on one’s faith or frame of reference). When water freezes it turns into crystal form, basically clear so that we can see through it in a new way.Snowflake --Isaiah 55 by Judy Rey Wasserman

Snowflake ( Isaiah 55)

Due to their geometrical shapes that can easily be understood as thicker and thinner lines, it is easy to understand a snowflake as created by letters, or the strings of elementary physics, or the words of The Divine. I can “see” each snowflake is a kind of heavenly, fleeting, visually whispered message.

Although Snowflake (Isaiah 55) works as a stand-alone image, it was conceived to be a part of other
projects.

This black and white image will be used by me in various ways, including as a part of a special downloadable holiday 2013 gift that will be sent out to the members of my mailing list. [You can quickly join this list via the subscription form in the left column.  Then you need to affirm and activate your subscription. So watch for and immediately respond to the email asking you to confirm your subscription. As you can guess from the information on this site and blog, the newsletter included inspiration, news, sometimes a free gift and first call opportunities for new works, limited and so far free webinars, etc.  The newsletter is supposed to arrive monthly, and my new year’s resolution is to actually meet that goal, which has not been met is the last five years for more than three months at a time! )

Below is the King James translation of the texts that inspired me to use this scripture for the strokes of this snowflake. You can easily spot the reference to snow.  Since all of my artworks use the letters from scripture texts to both represent the strings of elementary physics and for the image, I am especially fond of the promise of verse, 11, as it leads me to enjoy thinking of my artworks hanging on people’s wall being viewed and  “prospering” those who view them.  (I use the King James translation as it is in public domain)

Isaiah 55:

6 Seek ye the LORD while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is
near;

7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the man of iniquity his thoughts;
and let him return unto the LORD, and He will have compassion upon him,
and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

8 For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,
saith the LORD.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher
than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

10 For as the rain cometh down and the snow from heaven, and returneth
not thither, except it water the earth, and make it bring forth and
bud, and give seed to the sower and bread to the eater;

11 So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not
return unto Me void, except it accomplish that which I please, and make
the thing whereto I sent it prosper.

12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace; the
mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and
all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress, and instead of the
brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall be to the LORD for a
memorial, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.
